About the interviewee

Rita Morales works with female entrepreneurs who want to take their online presence to the next level. After two businesses and working several unfulfilling jobs at corporations, she longed for more but just wasn’t sure what her next business would be. She was given the responsibility to take on the implementation of the new company website and marketing tasks. She was hooked.

After a few years of preparation while continuing to work full-time, she launched her website development business, Brainy Girl Designs. She recently moved across the country from beautiful southern California back where she lived for the past 12 years to her hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

Rita strives to support and encourage mom and non-mom entrepreneurs in all of their endeavors. She believes that no matter how long it takes, you should do what makes you happy. She is a real food advocate and fitness coach at Naturally Stunning. Most importantly, Rita is a mom to two amazing little boys and wife to a support husband.

What comes to mind when you see this topic?

There are a few creative ways to grow your business including networking offline and online while being helpful and knowledgeable within your niche.

What are the best practices when it comes to this issue?

For some, networking in person can be daunting and intimidating. A few ways to overcome these feelings are:

Simply go to the event. We can talk ourselves out of anything especially if we are slightly uncomfortable. There have been many times that I wasn’t looking forward to an event but after leaving I realized I loved it. It was a great opportunity to meet others and learn about them.

Be genuinely interested in them. Instead of trying to push your business or services, just get to know people. They may not be your ideal client or you theirs but it is a good way to develop relationships that are long withstanding. This person would be more likely to hire you or recommend you after they know, like, and trust you.

Don’t shy away when you attend events. You are there to connect with others so be open and inviting. Introduce yourself and ask about them. Listen. Don’t just try to find an opportunity to talk about yourself.

Be confident in you and your business. Know what you and your business offers is valuable. This will help build your confidence. By getting to know people, you will be able to find issues that you can help them with. What are they struggling with right now? When you find out and know the solution, share it with them or connect them to someone else who can help them.

When networking online, there are many places to get to know others –

Social media platforms such as Facebook groups, Google+ groups, and Twitter

Forums that are related to your target market where they may be found

The key to connecting with others online is simple – be authentic and offer solutions to their problems. Don’t just spam out your services and expect someone to hire you. The best way to get business online is simply to provide value and help without the expectation of anything in return. The opportunities will soon come knocking maybe even through recommendations.

These are a few creative ways to grow your business quickly as long as you are consistent with whatever method you choose. Starting and growing a business can be a difficult process, so make sure to focus your efforts on the ones that become most beneficial. If something doesn’t work or needs to be tweaked, recognize that and move forward.
