On today’s show of the 3 AM Egos, we discussed a new virus that is making people stupider. According to ABC News and The Independent (UK), the virus discovered by Johns Hopkins University and University of Nebraska researchers found that a virus found in throat microbes of people featured in a study was actually causing them to score lower in visual processing and spatial awareness tests. Out of 90 participants, 40 percent who tested positive for the virus performed worse on tests. This study has been recently published in the online journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. Our producer Sigmund Kramer said that it doesn’t make sense that a virus has to make you stupider, rather when you’re sick with any virus, you don’t perform as well.
