Even though most people disregard a move-in inspection, it is very necessary to document the condition of the apartment before moving in. The landlord is responsible for fixing things that are not in order. However, you can be blamed for the damages and this can result in reduction of your security deposit when moving out.

Here are some of the things to look out for:

  1. Plumbing

The area that most people fail to check before moving into a new apartment. Make sure you have looked for exposed pipes in the kitchen, bathroom and other parts of the house. Check whether there are any signs of mould or damage to the pipes. If there are any issues, you should ask the landlord to fix them before signing the lease.

  1. Electricals

It is very important to ensure that all electrical parts of the house are working before moving in. Inspect all the rooms in the house to check whether the lights and other electricals such as ceiling fans are in good condition. In addition, ensure that telephone and internet connections are functioning properly.

  • Windows

Ensure that windows in all rooms shut properly and feature adequate locks. Any damages to the windows can expose you to break-ins and other vulnerabilities. Also, the windows should be properly insulated.

Make sure you have inspected how the cooling systems work in the new apartment. Middle East region is synonymous with high temperatures. So, you have to ensure that the cooling systems are fully functional. If there are any issues, you should notify the landlord beforehand. You will not want to move into a house with poor cooling systems in Dubai.

  1. Painted surfaces

Go in every room and thoroughly check to ensure all the painted surfaces are in proper conditions. If you identify any sign of scratch or damage, notify the landlord because you can easily be blamed for the damages in the future. Check out with the landlord whether it is okay to change the wall paintings if you want a different colour.

  1. Appliances and furnishing

Some apartments feature appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines. Before moving in, make sure the appliances provided are in working order. Also, some apartments come partly or fully furnished. You should perform a thorough inspection of each furniture and notify the landlord if there are any issues.
