First Aid Training for your Business and Why You Should Care About it

Any place with a lot of people is susceptible to injuries and accidents. The workplace is, unfortunately, no exception. Every employer should make sure theirs is secure. One way to do that is to have people who can handle possible emergencies. They can learn this in a First Aid Course. These kinds of classes teach the basics of emergency handling. As a result, you get a company which is safer from dangers and panic.

The level of the course you need for your business depends on the size of your staff and the nature of the work you do.

In higher-risk businesses, a more significant number of people should take a three-day course. On the other hand, low-risk companies with fewer employees such as retail stores and schools only need one day. The goal of both types is to enable appointed staff members to act when needed. And it’s short enough not to impact the productivity of your work!

What do you learn on a first aid course?

Everyone who is able to do the actions taught in the class and is over 16 years old may attend it.

What your employees will learn is what to do in case of emergencies. Naturally, they won’t become medical doctors in a day (or even three). Yet, they will be able to hold off severe accidents until the professionals arrive.

The situations covered in the course are many. Some examples include administering CPR and taking care of minor injuries. They also learn what to do in case of choking or shock.

But, even though a person may know what they should do, they are not trained paramedics. That’s why the course also teaches how to stay calm and competent in case of an emergency.

After the course, there is an assessment. The employees will have to show they are able to do the procedures they learned.

Why choose in-house training

You can organize the activity in your own venue, or in a site of the service provider you hired.

First aid courses have a specified curriculum and set of requirements. But in the case of in-house training, the curriculum can be adapted to fit the unique needs of your workplace. For example, they could focus more on the types of injury likely to happen in their environment.

All of this doesn’t have to be a bother since you can book it with consideration of shifts and working hours. You also don’t have to organise transportation. Besides, your employees will be learning the skills in a familiar environment, and in the same place where they will use them. That can significantly impact how they perform when they have to.

What to keep in mind

When you choose the duration, you should bear in mind the legal requirements for your specific business. Also, the law requires to requalify once every three years. But with human lives at stake, once every three years sounds more than reasonable.
