Two women veterans of era to be accompanied by other war heroes
Houston, Texas (May 30, 2018) – Honor Flight Network (a non-profit based in Springfield, Ohio) was founded to honor veterans by creating opportunities for disabled, injured, and elderly veterans from World War II to visit their monument in Washington, DC.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an estimated 640 WWII veterans die each day. Honor Flight Network continues do whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of veterans and help heroes travel absolutely free.
Subsequent to the World War II veterans, their efforts will then focus on Korean War and then Vietnam War veterans, honoring them similarly according to their website.
The Houston community has a rare opportunity to receive and welcome returning veterans from Washington, DC who have just visited their World War II Museum.
“This surprise reception always has an incredible impact on these national treasures and attendees,” says Ashley French, Honor Flight Houston Chair, “We are so excited to have our twenty-one mighty men and two mighty women aboard, Ms. Geneva Marnell (Army) and Houstonian and author of “Through the Storm” Eleanor Stampfli (Army). It is really rare to have women veterans on-flight, but we know they will be just like one of the guys and honored just as well.”

The World War II memorial opened to the public on April 29, 2004 and was dedicated one month later on May 29. It is located on 17th Street, between Constitution and Independence Avenues, and is flanked by the Washington Monument to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west. The memorial is operated by the National Park Service and is open to visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
