Kevin Price, Host of the Price of Business on Business Talk 1110 AM KTEK (on Bloomberg’s home in Houston) recently interviewed John Perry.

About the interviewee

My name is Mr. John Perry and I am an owner of web design company “Muse Templates Pro”. I graduated from the New York University and worked for “Dell” for 5 years, before starting my own business. I am also a father of one beautiful child and a loving husband.

Tell me about your firm (number of employees, location, type of companies you work with, etc.).

We are based in New York. 7 employees are working in my company. Most of them are designers and programmers. We usually work with small businesses or individuals who are interested in creating their personal websites.

Tell us how you show your employees that you care?

I believe that it is important for every company to make sure that their employees feel appreciated. It’s the golden rule of business. Happy employee is much more productive. So in my business, I do everything it takes to make my employees satisfied. This involves comfortable working environment, great atmosphere, bonuses and after work activities. All of this shows to the employees that I really care about them and I can see that they enjoy working with me.

What mistake do businesses when it comes to cultivating a strong relationship with your employees?

I believe that the biggest mistake is to ask from your employees too much and give nothing back in return. This way, employees do not feel as part of the company at all and have no motivation to work. In small businesses, employees should feel as part of your business, so personal relationship with them is very important.

Why is it important for your firm to make employees feel valued?

Satisfied employees are much more motivated. They participate in the development of the business, help to generate new ideas and they work more productive. So it is important for every firm to make employees feel valued.
