Kevin Price, Host of the Price of Business on Business Talk 1110 AM KTEK (on Bloomberg’s home in Houston) recently interviewed Shawn M. Miller.

About the interviewee:

Shawn M. Miller is the CEO of Performance Institute in Holland, Michigan, USA and creator of the Celebrity CEO Model.  He and his family are also in the Fitness business and have commercial Real Estate investments in Michigan.

Tell me about your firm (number of employees, location, type of companies you work with, etc.).  

I run three companies and various projects and investments, but for this purpose, we’re talking about Performance Institute.  P.I. is a five person boutique business development and advisement firm based in just outside of Chicago.  We work with small, but significant, usually family owned businesses who are on the cusp of a major leap such as going International.

What type and size of companies do you have as clients?

Specific to this topic is our Celebrity CEO Model, in which I am personally vetting 10 people who are the majority owner/controller of a U.S. company of $100-$500MM in size, who has the personality potential and the motivation to become a Celebrity Entrepreneur with the same magic allure as a Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, or Richard Branson.  We’re looking to intentionally create the next generation of Shark Tank style Celebrity Entrepreneurs.

What comes to mind when you see this topic?

It is challenging to find these people and to connect with them.  The question posed was how do I reach them, directly?

What are the best practices when it comes to this issue?

I’m using two techniques stacked.  A Private Letter written to them personally, but sent as a .pdf attachment to an e-mail for speed.  This leverages the old school credibility and personal connection of a Personal Letter with the speed of today to find someone’s personal e-mail and deliver a powerful message directly to their Inbox, probably their phone.  Lots of people send e-mails, but our personal and private letter attachments are very effective connections.
Secondly, I’m using Private Videos delivered via YouTube.  I’ll record a brief and personal introduction Uploaded directly to YouTube, but Unlisted, and sent via a Private, Direct Message, Invitation to view it.  This YouTube video will reference the e-mail Letter as well.
